Multimodal transportation will accelerate the improvement of logistics quality and efficiency
Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the People's Bank of China jointly issued a notice on the key work of cost reduction in 2024, which clearly proposes specific measures to further reduce enterprise costs. Four departments proposed to encourage the development of multimodal intermodal transportation and promote the development of intermodal transportation modes such as "single unit system" and "one box system" in the adjustment and optimization of transportation structure. Experts say that this will promote the improvement and enhancement of China's transportation and logistics quality, and provide better services for the realization of "smooth flow of goods".
Multimodal intermodal transportation refers to a mode of transportation that is achieved through the interconnection and transfer between two or more modes of transportation. The development of multimodal transportation is of great significance for promoting cost reduction in China's transportation and logistics, and advancing the construction of a modern economic system.
In response to the overall development trend of multimodal intermodal transportation in China, Shen Mengru, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Transportation Information Management Engineering at Beijing Jiaotong University and Deputy Secretary General of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP), stated that currently, the transportation of bulk commodities in China remains an important component of the domestic freight market. With the continuous rise of logistics costs, its advantages in cost, efficiency, and other aspects have gradually become prominent. It has now entered a stage of large-scale development and has initially formed a multimodal collaborative development model mainly in the form of international sea rail intermodal transportation and international railway intermodal transportation. The digital transformation and upgrading speed of the logistics industry is also continuously improving. Although the standardization level of multimodal transport in China is not yet high compared to developed countries, and a relatively complete multimodal transport system has not been established, there is still great potential for development in this field, such as sub markets like sea rail transport and international railway transport, which are expected to continue to maintain a strong development momentum. Over the past decade, we have been continuously advancing and developing very rapidly. We can say that we have a relatively solid foundation. We have introduced some policies to promote the adjustment of transportation structure, and in terms of facility interconnection, information exchange, and mode optimization, we have also formulated a series of standards to promote the development of a 'one order system' and a one box system. The cost reduction and efficiency improvement effects of multiple modes are very obvious, "said Shen Mengru.
It is reported that multimodal transportation can reduce logistics costs and improve logistics efficiency. Compared with conventional transportation methods, it can reduce the total cost of goods by 30%. On the basis of reducing costs and improving efficiency, we have innovatively explored the standardization and standardized development of the two modes of multimodal transport, 'one single bill' and one box one box '. Shen Mengru believes that promoting the coordination of multimodal transport standards and rules is the key to promoting the implementation of the' one bill system ', and breaking the information barrier between multimodal transport is an important basis for promoting the electronicization of documents and the effective circulation of document information.' One bill system 'and' one box system 'are important measures to improve the efficiency and quality of multimodal transport and expand diversified service fields. The development of the' one bill system 'requires the cultivation of multimodal operation entities with full process organizational capabilities.
Shen Mengru said, "In the future, our logistics industry can focus on formulating standards and rules for multimodal transportation, improving the intelligence of equipment, creating supply chain platforms, upgrading digital technology, and enabling our logistics industry to achieve faster development in quality and efficiency
